Archaeologists excavating the forecourt of the Salome Cave in the Lachish Forest in the Judean lowlands region of Israel have uncovered a 2,000-year-old family tomb. Archeologists say the cave was continued to be used in the Byzantine and early Islamic periods and became known as the Salome Cave due to the belief that it is the burial place of Salome, the midwife of Jesus. A rare collection of 15 silver coins stored inside a wooden box dated 2,200 years ago has been discovered at an excavation site at the Muraba'at Cave in the Judean Desert that overlooks the Dead Sea.
